Kenya: Rivers in Agony

As the world marks world water day, NTV is focusing on the country’s rivers, which are threatened by pollution. Our brand-new series Rivers in Agony focuses on Athi River that is now choking with effluent and other pollutants from Nairobi. Residents living along the river’s path are forced to consume contaminated water most of it containing poisonous metals. Here now is NTV’s Joyce Mkawasi with part one of Rivers in Agony.

As world water day was marked, thousands are still without the option of clean, uncontaminated water. In the second part of our series rivers in agony, Joyce Mkawasi explores the impact of untreated water on the people of Kiahoni, a small town in Kitui County.

In the third and final part of the series ‘Rivers in Agony’, Joyce Mukawasi explores solutions to pollution in rivers. But it takes more than one party to make it work and requires the involvement of all stakeholders from the government to the communities to protect and preserve these water resources.
