Secretary of State John Kerry has appointed a professor of Christian ethics as the first director of the State Department’s Office of Faith-Based Community Initiatives. The new office is the outgrowth of an initiative by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. VOA religion correspondent Jerome Socolovsky reports.

The U.S. State Department recently created a special office to coordinate its diplomacy with religious groups. The office is a response to criticism that the U.S. has failed in the past to take account of the religiosity of foreign people.
